BLOG
Here’s the thing about signing a Very Important document saying that you won’t talk about something: you can’t really talk about it, even in yearly wrap-up posts. Surely there should be some kind of “okay but you can brag about it a little bit on your blog” clause?
It feels like we did nothing in 2022, but also simultaneously like we did loads. Either way, we’re going into the New Year excited about where we are and where 2023 might take us.
Thus the concept of our posh little piggy was born: an uptight gent with an excellent sense of smell and some niche personal interests.
The passage of time in a pandemic is so weird. Entire months feel like they slip by in a weekend, but when we think about things we did at the start of 2021, it feels like they happened years ago.
The first and most important step in the creative process was obviously to get the Christmas box down (in mid-October) and decorate the studio. Just to get in the mood, you know.
Chicken Fruit feel incredibly privileged to join the ranks of studios such as Aardman and Cartoon Saloon in working with Greenpeace to raise awareness of an important environmental issue.
As a studio, we’re still a long way off being able to change the world with every animation we do. But, until we get there, we’re doing our best to do what we can to make a difference.
Chicken Fruit were commissioned by a friend (a different friend to last time! we have two!!) to make a film for her parents, documenting her move from hot, swampy Florida to cooler, greener Oregon.
We can officially cross off the third goal from our 2021 Goals list!! Project Studio Renovatio is complete!!
We started with a spider diagram of anything vaguely related to '“regrowth” that we could possibly think of. Our list included everything from weed control to David Tennant’s chopped-off hand in the 2005 Doctor Who Christmas special.
We made another film in 48 hours! Featuring the amazing vocal talent of Jonny’s grandma Jean.
Inform People wanted an animation that was as simple and clean as their Virtual PA system is.
Meet Mo, Mel, Ed and Ellie – four children who want to understand what this “life insurance” thing is all about.
We first heard of the new CBBC Snow Spider TV show through the show’s composer, Cato Hoeben, who passed along our details to Jennifer Sheridan, the director. This was lovely in several different ways, but horrible for one key reason: we initially met Cato at a networking event, which proves that networking events are useful and we have to keep doing them.
We knew we needed to educate ourselves about the industry’s effect on our struggling planet. Also, we submitted a film pitch that had carbon training as a requirement. But mainly it was that first thing.
We made an animated short film in 48 hours as part of Cardiff Animation Festival’s Quick Draw challenge. But how?
THE GREENGROCER: a film made in 48 hours for the Cardiff Animation Festival’s Quick Draw challenge.
Here’s what we got up to in 2020 – and what we want to get up to in 2021.
