Quick Draw 2026

Great question 👏 Let’s build a webpage for your animated short film about how using generative AI rots your brain.

Somehow it’s been four years since we last took part in Cardiff Quick Draw, an annual challenge to make an animated film in 48 hours as part of Cardiff Animation Festival.

We’ve taken part in Quick Draw four times before, but after our unintentional hiatus, we were definitely rusty! For the first time, we end up tweaking some elements of the film after it had been shown online and screened at the festival.

Part of our tweaks was to reversion the original 16:9 video into 9:16 so we could pop it on instagram (which we are begrudgingly starting to admit is part of the process for most projects these days), but it was undeniably exciting to be able to upload it in a more shareable format and have other people agree with our increasingly rare anti-AI stance.

The theme for the challenge this year was “work” and/or “play”, with participants invited to choose either one, or some combination of the two. (We tried for the combo.) There were 68 films submitted, all made from 8pm on 10th April to 8pm on 12th April 2026, and the quality of them blew us away! We definitely recommend setting aside an hour to watch all 68 on the Cardiff Animation YouTube channel.

Great post! 👏 You did such a good job putting that together. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
